Arthur C. Clarke, inventor of satellite, visionary in technology, dead at 91

Sir Arthur C Clark has been described in many ways, a visionary of the future, an inventor and a philosopher but for me the most important thing was his writings. Having grown up in a rich scientific background I have enjoyed reading his works, from the Odyssey series (2001, 2010, 2064 & 3001) and the Rama series. His literature was truly a work of art and will keep generations entertained.

Easter Weekend in Scarborough

Denise had come over to Scarborough this weekend so I headed off to meet up on saturday. Saturday evening we went for Carmen's birthday ( one of Dee's friends ) which was attended by like 20 other people ( I basically knew Dee and Nancy and had met Lincoln before so I said "sounds like fun :P" )




yes the last one is of myself ( chopsticks ) and Nancy ( fork ) trying to get a piece of Lincoln's turkey. Also the 3 people in front of me are Jenny, Catherine and Tony ( if you see Tony in the streets BEWARE !! he is seriously out to take over the world :P )



The next day we had an Easter family dinner at Dee's place which included her brothers family, Nancy and myself. Will post those pictures once Dee sends them over.

"Windsor or BUST" spring'07

Went to Windsor for the weekend, Shab and i carpooled from downtown just after work and were there in the night. It felt like i was suddenly re-living a dream i had quiet a while ago but none the less it was fun !! saturday saw us playing soccer at St Denis center after which i walked Denise and her friends dog home. After that we went to the party at Marco's place. It was myself, Saket, Wiki, Abhay, Akash, Shab, Marco and Steff.





NOTE : the party was one hour of pure fun and 5 hrs of damage control :s
Sunday saw some of the most beautiful weather till date and everyone was outside. we just lounged around in the grass outside till our ride came to pick up Shab and myself.




Well it was almost like a vacation away from cold Toronto/Mississauga and I cannot wait to return back in one months time when i get done here.

RCSC Mississauga - Bowling away...

Another Week and another RCSC get-together of RIM's Mississauga Co-ops. We had 16 people for the bowling game last evening after work and it was a good get together for the Commerce and Matheson building co-ops ( not to mention a good chance for us to steam roll over them - 1st place was Andrew at 113 and 2nd place was yours truly at 101 :)

Missisauga-2007

Man its been a crazy month. After returning from Atlanta i had 2 nights to pack up and get ready to head for Toronto to settle down before starting work on the 2nd.

I stayed for the 1st week with a nice family living in Malton from Kalpana nani's side and boy was it it fun. Aunty and Uncle were really nice and their kids Akta and Naman being around my age are fun.



After one week with them i was able to move out on my 1st weekend. My new room is a massive basement and im living with a Family from Poona and my roommate sharing the basement from me is from Bombay. Its fun there but I end up spending most of my time with Shakuntula aunty and her family. Now that we have a 40" samsung LCD tv which currently has my Xbox 360 hooked to it i do my Xbox'ing there as well :P



Next up - my internship at Research In Motion.....

21st Birthday eh ? almost forgot that one..........

Man its been a busy semester. So busy that my friend Shivani told me on the 14th that tomorrow is my birthday and I might have almost let it slip out of my mind.

Basically spent the whole day preparing for my next days Digital Design exam and trying to get over my self induced "jet lag" because staying awake the entire night seems to have lost its charm.



Guess i'll celebrate once im in Atlanta next week, cant wait.........



Edit : Ranjan, Wiki and Sujay got me a gift today, its apparently one of the hottest selling DVDs this christmas and they got one of the last ones. Its freaking sweet because its one box set with eppisodes from all the new series.....remastered. Now who has a 5.1 surround system..........

Post Carnage Report

Well, part from the thanksgiving dinner there has not been anything interesting to show this entire semester except the last 2 nights must be like the first time we have had Halo multiplayer tournaments at home !! Following is the report and the players are :

The last match was the craziest with Wiki and myself having to do the hardest fighting as we were Red at first and after we helped the red team gain control of the map we joined the Blues to bridge the unequal distrobution. It was then an uphill fight against Sujay and Ranjan but Keith showed that slipping through the Red defences to grab their flag was possible and we all followed suit.....



This match had its own troubles, someone piled all the vehicles into red base and since there was no respawn for the vehicles the battles were waged mostly on foot. Ranjan got banned though and sujay quit when wiki joined my team.

Thanksgiving dinner 2006

Well, sorry for the late post, been burried under a pile of midterms and assignments.

Thanksgiving this year was fun, Steff cooked us a traditional Canadian thanksgiving dinner at Akash's place and all of us got together for dinner then. Bina also got some good stuf including the pecan pie.


Things picked up interest after Shab ( the guy giving Abhay the knife ) droped the pie on the floor. All of us then made it our holy mission for the night to make sure the contaminated pie landed somewhere on Shab himself and that involved chasing him down Rankin ave twice on a full stomach and a lot of other sepionage related stuff ! anyways we finally ambushed Shab at the front door as Abhay snuck up from the back and threw the pie at him but the darn thing missed and hit the door as Shab ducked. Thankfully Ranjan was standing on point with a can of whipped cream and an itchy trigger finger. Shab's entire back side was "whipped" & "creamed" :)

Florida 2006 - Universal Studio's Orlando

Rashi & I hit the Universal Studios together on our final day in Orlando. The place is amazing !! Parts of it are deigned to mimic a 60's american mafia run town while other areas are futuristic like the Back to the Future and the Men In Black rides ( the back to the future ride was to be decommisioned just the week after we rode it, its been in service for over 15 years now but hopefully they will still keep that DMC Delorian outside.)

we did mos of the rides there including the back to the future, MIB, mummy, Terimnat0r 4-d and even saw a stage performance of the Horror Makeup show. have 2 pics from the rides itself.

Lastly to finish it off we had a good dinner at a Hard Rock cafe.

Well those were the main highlights of the Florida leg of the trip. Not to forget Mausa/Mausi bought me a new laptop as well from which I have been making all these posts since. I have the specs and some pics online here.
Next and lastly the Georgia leg of the trip.

Papa's Promotion

Today papa put on the ranks of Full Colonel along with some of his close friends like Sanjay uncle. He has put on the red colar stripes and an extra star on each shoulder as well as the extra responsibilities and privileges.


I could not be more proud of him.

Florida 2006 part 2

Well before the big weekend finale of the Florida leg we celebrated Kalpana nani's birthday. overall had a great time with nani ( heck we even made rasgullas together, my batch was kinda hard and small but it was good for my 1st try ;)


we also had a bowling game before the big day ( no the scores aint fixed, i am actually that decent at the game :P and off the record Raj mausa did most of the work on that score-board, including most of the good shots mausi, Rashi & Riya got ;)


After that came the big weekend. we drove down to the Kennedy Space Center and spent a saturday touring the complex.

It was mind numbing being in the presence of the machines that had taken man so far. be it their size or their complexity these things represented the ultimate human achievement and it was amazing just to be around them. the highlights were a Saturn 1b rocket,

thruster assemblies including that of a Saturn V ( the most powerfull engine ever built ),

the original 2-man Gemini 2space capsule ( man that thing looked cramped !! immagine hurling in orbit at many Km/sec around the Earth with a copilot for a couple of hours in that, the astronauts of today are pretty much in the lap of luxury !! )

and a memorial dedicated to the NASA's fallen.

Florida 2006 part 1

Spent over a week at Florida with Shefali mausi and family. got to hang out with all 3 of my cousins and pretty much lived in luxary considering the house they live in in Fort Lauderdale. heck, theres an artificial lake behind their house juzt for the beauty of it !!!



on the 1st day i went out with Nitin mama and his friends to Miami beach for a day of relaxing and just general passing the football around and not to mention enjoying the scenery ;)



the next evening i went out with Nitin mama and Rashi to see a game of baseball played by the home team the Marlyns.



next up is the Orlando Trip.

The Hard Rock Cafe in the CBD, the 3rd one i have been to. Had once heck of a meal there and good rock music too, not to mention the collectable they had up on display ( Sir Elton John's hat, Madona's corsette and more !! )



The view from the highest man made structure on the planet ( Observation deck and the Sky Pod of the CN tower ).




( yes i know what your asking, that head-shot of me is me lying down on the glass floor of the observation deck with a plesent 400 meter drop below me )
you can also see the closing of the roof of Rogers Center, the largest stadium with a closable roof ( no mates, it aint Colonial stadium in Docklands !!! )

My 1 week at Daimler Chrysler

Worked at the Daimler CGrysler plant this week. Windsor's installation covers over 75,000 sq. ft and is their main mini-van production plant. for the last week I was working in a team responsible for upgrading the entire plants computer systems. our job was to remove the old hardware, connect the new one and connect it to the main-frame server through Red Hat Linux. it was a 7am-3:30pm job and i was out of the house from 6am-4:30pm generally



A few gatherings with the team.



We were divided into teams of 2 and Muna and i were working together. we worked in the main assembly factory....


and the main construction factory where they put together the chasis of the vans with all the robots one can possibly immagine.



The main assembly plant was the biggest building, where they put together all the components from the dashboard to the engines.



the engines assembly part was the coolest. they start out with these base 3.3, 3.7 and 4.0 Liter V6 engines and by the end of the long line they are 2-3 times their original size with all the added components.



stepping out of the plant was when one realized the actual scale of the factory.



the construction plant was the hardest part of the job as the computers were spread out sparodically all over the place and there was quiet a bit of construction/maintanence going on so it became like a maze to navigate through. more pics of the construction plant



Well, it was a really messed up week with the job and all and im glad to be done but at the same time wish i was going back the next morning. until next time i guess.
